The first orthopedic center is inaugurated in Equatorial Guinea

The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Diosdado Vicente Nsue Milang, has inaugurated the Akuakam Orthopedic Health Center, the first in Equatorial Guinea with these characteristics. In just three days that it has been in operation, 79 orthopedic prostheses have already been prepared and placed, 56 in men and 23 in women.

The inauguration of this orthopedic center is a great advance for our health system since, until now, most of the implants were done outside the national territory. “Orthopedic prostheses are of great importance in not only the physical rehabilitation of the patient, but also from a psychological and social point of view, guaranteeing their reintegration into society”, declared Minister Nsue Milang.

The orthopedic center has a total of ten Equatorial Guinean professionals, including three doctors, a nurse, two health technical assistants, 4 assistants and two drivers, to which must be added seven professionals from the organization “Jaipur Foot Knee/Limb” recently arrived from the Republic of India.

The Akuakam Orthopedic Health Center has 25 beds and will also play an important training role as it will prepare Equatorial Guinean health professionals with experience in surgery and traumatology

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, the First Lady of the Nation, Constancia Mangue Nsue Okomo, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of India, the Governor of the province of Wele-Nzas and the mayor of Mongomo, among other authorities.
