17 Nov Stephen Hoffman, promoter of the EGMVI and president of Sanaria, recognized with the Clara Southtmayd medal of the ASTMH
Stephen Hoffman, President of Sanaria, has been recognized with the Clara Southmayd Medal by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH).
Hoffman is one of the actors – together with the Equatorial Guinean Government, the Bioko Island Malaria Elimination Program (BIMEP), Marathon Oil, Noble Energy and Atlantic Methanol Production Company – that is making possible the Vaccination Initiative against the Malaria in Equatorial Guinea (EGMVI).
The Sanaria® PfSPZ vaccine aims to be the first licensed vaccine against malaria, and the first live sporozoite vaccine that would protect against any type of malaria. Next year the third phase of the vaccine will begin with a clinical trial of 2,100 Equatoguineans to obtain the necessary data for authorization.
BIMEP won the P3 Impact Award last year, which rewards the best programs, worldwide, promoted through public-private business partnerships.
