PRESENTATION MEETING OF THE NATIONAL PLAN FOR THE YELLOW FEVER PREVENTION CAMPAIGN IN THE REPUBLIC OF EQUATORIAL GUINEA

The Vice Minister, Mitoha Ondo Ayecaba, chaired this Saturday the Presentation Meeting of the National Plan for the Yellow Fever Prevention Campaign in Equatorial Guinea.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, essential health services have been partially affected around the world, as countries have put more effort into dealing with this global health crisis.

Within this context, in recent days, several countries in the Central African Sub-region have reported outbreaks of yellow fever, including Cameroon and Gabon, a situation that positions Equatorial Guinea as a high-risk country for this disease.

What is yellow fever? It is a viral disease that causes bleeding and is transmitted by infected mosquitoes that generally produces: yellow tint to the skin, fever, headache, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting and fatigue.

Faced with this situation, the national health authorities, supported by experts from the WHO and UNICEF, have developed the NATIONAL PLAN FOR THE YELLOW FEVER PREVENTION CAMPAIGN IN THE REPUBLIC OF EQUATORIAL GUINEA, whose implementation will be carried out under the guidelines of the National Technical Committee of Surveillance and Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic, taking into account the capacities acquired in the fight against said pandemic,

To this end, a Subcommittee for the Implementation and Follow-up of the National Plan for the Yellow Fever Prevention Campaign has been created, attached to the Reference Technical Committee, and a process of mobilizing resources through the Government, System Agencies of the United Nations and other Partners for the execution of said Yellow Fever Vaccination campaign.
